The Cambridge Advanced is a C1 level examination designed for teenagers and adults and until recently they had been known as the CAE examinations. They are in good demand abroad, as they provide access to many university courses, as well as many employment opportunities.

The Advanced examination, which perhaps is not the ultimate destination for Greek learners, offers certification that is recognised by the Greek ΑΣΕΠ – the Supreme Staff Selection Board – and provides C1 certificate holders (very good knowledge) with 50 POINTS (Μόρια)  to be used when seeking employment in the public sector.

The Advanced examinations comprise four parts:

Part

Duration

Reading

1 hour 30 minutes

Writing

1 hour 30 minutes

Listening

40 minutes

Speaking

17 to 18 minutes

The Speaking Examination is carried out by two well-trained speaking examiners examining the candidates in pairs.

The written parts of the examination are graded in Cambridge.

The base mark is an average of 60% across all parts. Participation in the Advanced examination could be seen as the natural step for learners on their way to C2 (Proficiency) or become a mid-point destination for those who cannot find the time to work towards reaching Proficiency.
