The Cambridge First and First for Schools are Β2 level examinations designed for adults and teenagers respectively and until recently they had been known as the FCE examinations or as the LOWER examinations long before that. The First for Schools examinations are designed especially for high school learners.
The First for Schools examination, which often is the ultimate destination for some learners, offers certification recognised by the Greek ΑΣΕΠ – the Supreme Staff Selection Board – and provides B2 certificate holders (good knowledge) with 30 POINTS (Μόρια) to be used when seeking work positions in the public sector
The First and First for Schools examinations comprise four parts, as follows:
Part | Duration |
Reading | 1 hour 15 minutes |
Writing | 1 hour 20 minutes |
Listening | 40 minutes |
Speaking | 15 to 16 minutes |
The Speaking Examination is carried out by two well-trained speaking examiners examining the candidates in pairs.
The written parts of the examination are graded in Cambridge.
The base mark is an average of 60% across all parts. Participation in the First for Schools examinations is a major landmark in the progress of all learners, which explains why learners have always opted to sit the exam at this level.
